Do image resolutions always need to strictly follow pixel size charts? Not necessarily. In many cases, images can be 20–30% smaller than standard recommendations and still produce excellent poster-quality results. However, low-resolution images downloaded from the internet are not suitable for large-format printing. They may appear sharp on screen but will pixelate when enlarged, and may also raise copyright concerns. We recommend using royalty-free images, filtering Google Image searches for high resolution, or purchasing licensed images from sources such as shutterstock.com . Modern smartphone cameras are also capable of producing high-quality images suitable for poster printing, as long as original, uncompressed files are used.
Advantages of using Illustrator for print design instead of Photoshop include the use of vector-based graphics, allowing unlimited scaling without loss of quality. Illustrator files are typically smaller and more efficient than Photoshop files, making them ideal for large-format printing.
Highly recommended for beginners in graphic design: learn to use Adobe Illustrator effectively for advertising and print media design. Photoshop should primarily be used for photo retouching, while layout and composition should be handled in Illustrator for optimal results.
